The Loose Infant School is a school for children between four and seven years. The school has a planned admission limit of 90. Children can start school in September as long as their 5th birthday falls before 31 August of the following year. Reception children attend school part-time at the start of the September term and are then introduced to full time education. Times of School Sessions Mornings: 08.55 am – 12 noon Afternoons: 1.20 – 3.20 pm All children can enter their classroom from 8.45am via their outside classroom door, the main entrance or the playground entrance next to the conservatory. It is important that children are not late for school. Late arrival in the classroom can be upsetting for your child, and can affect the smooth running of the school. Children arriving after 8.55 am should be brought into school via the main ntrance. After 9 am the adult bringing the child to school will need to sign the Late Book in the main entrance as the child is ‘officially late’. Children arriving after 9.25 am will be marked as an ‘unauthorised absence’ in the register. Parents are responsible for their children until they enter the school. We ask that children are not allowed to play on the playground equipment either before or after school. Children will be taken into the playground by the teacher at the end of the day Please wait around the edge of the playground so that children can see clearly.
Class AllocationWe have 9 classes – 30 pupils per class Starting School as an Infant Before your child is due to start the school please visit us and place your child’s name on the list of future entrants. At this point you can take a preliminary look at the school. All children are invited to spend two sessions in school in the term before they start. There is a parents’ evening in the Summer Term where you can meet teachers and find out about your child starting school. Pupils are admitted to school in accordance with the County admissions policy. The application forms will be available in December. These should be returned by the deadline indicated on the form. Places will be allocated according to the Kent County Council’s admission criteria, which is published in the information booklet ‘Admission to Primary School in Kent’. Moving towards full-time Education It is our policy to admit all of the children in the Autumn Term of the academic year in which they reach the age of five years. It is a great help, particularly to the children’s confidence, if, by the time they start school, they are able to: -ask to go to the toilet in a recognisable way -go to the toilet without assistance -use a knife, fork and spoon -dress and undress themselves -understand and obey simple verbal instructions On the first day of school it would be useful for you to bring your child into school and for them to have: -a named PE kit -fruit or plain biscuits for morning playtime – in a named plastic container (no wrappers) -a named lunchbox, if they have packed lunches, with favourite packed lunch items so that there is nothing new for them to cope with at lunchtime. Water is available for children to drink but you are welcome to provide your child with juice in either a carton or leak proof container. No fizzy drinks or glass bottles please.
